Oh Gena Showalter, how I love thee…haha.
When I first heard that Gena was going back to a
contemporary romance series, I was a little nervous. I thought there could be a
chance she could lose her niche without the paranormal factors playing out in
her books. That she might fall into that pit of redundant conrom storylines and
blasé characters.
I was soooooooooo wrong. So so wrong that I should smack
myself for even thinking it.
I freaking LOVE this series already, like lovvvvvvveeeeeee.
Gena transports us to a small town called Strawberry Valley,
Oklahoma. It’s quiet and quaint but hidden inside this remote and peaceful town
are some of the most amazing, hilarious, sexy and compassionate characters you
will meet in your reading life.
Jase is an ex-con, just released from prison who moves to
Strawberry Valley with his best and longtime friends West and Beck. This trio
of hotties are nothing but finger licking good. Seriously you will want to eat
these guys up. The bond they share and express in this book is utterly
swoonworthy and will melt your heart. They are thick as thieves and will do anything
for each other. But what is a trio of hotties without a little danger. Jase,
West, and Beck all share something else as well. A dark past that not only
cemented their bond but has set them on a journey of redemption, love and
forgiveness. In Closer you Come we get Jase’s part of this journey, a journey
that puts him right in the cross hairs of a one feisty Strawberry Valley native,
Brook Lynn Dillon.
Brook Lynn is the hard-working, no nonsense, determined and
loyal half of the duo that makes up the Dillon sisters. Jessie Kay is her other
half and completely opposite, a wild child; always out partying it up and
finding her way into some hot guy’s bed. These two couldn’t be more different.
Brook Lynn has spent most of her life looking out for her sister and taking
care of their monetary needs by working her butt off. When a quintessential
wild Jessie Kay night brings Brook Lynn face to face with the hot, mysterious
and brooding Jase, all bets are off.
Brook Lynn and Jase begin a friendship/relationship that is
unlike any either of them have experienced. One that will push them both past
the boundaries of their heart and the desire that burns within. I love Brook
Lynn and Jase’s relationship, it is a rocky road filled with hiccups, bumps,
undeniable lust and bittersweet tenderness that will leave you both laughing
out loud and weak in the knees.
I love what Gena did with these two, their love
was not predictable it was true, realistic and relatable. I loved how both Jase
and Brook Lynn played off each other in the book. For every action or word out
of Jase, Brook Lynn had an equally snarky comeback or reaction and it was
fantastic. I love seeing a heroine that is just as strong as her hero. This
story was overflowing with emotion, every turn of the page had me completely
consumed and I enjoyed every minute reading this story and becoming invested in
these new characters that Gena has brought to life.
This book has all the special ingredients that make up
Showalter gold. It’s witty, comical, deliciously sexy, exciting, genuine,
romantic and possesses a storyline that will have you itching to see which one
of the original heartbreaker boys we will get to enjoy next!!
