First love. Second chance?

As the daughter of a hoarder, Phoenix Fuller had a tough childhood. So when the handsome, popular Riley Stinson became her boyfriend in high school, she finally felt as though she had something to be proud of. Phoenix was desperate not to lose him—especially once she found out she was pregnant. Yes, she might have acted a bit obsessive when he broke up with her. But she did not run down the girl he started dating next.

Unfortunately, there was no way to prove her innocence. Now, after serving her time in prison, Phoenix has been released. All she wants to do is return to Whiskey Creek and get to know her son. But Jacob's father isn't exactly welcoming.

Riley doesn't trust Phoenix, doesn't want her in Jacob's life. He is, however, ready to find someone to love. And he wants a good mother for his son. He has no idea that he's about to find both!

As soon as they were gone, Riley grabbed Phoenix’s elbow, hanging on even when she tried to avoid the contact, and guided her to his truck. “Let’s get you to a doctor.”

The second Riley mentioned doctor, she wrenched away from him. “No, I―I don’t need a doctor.”

“He’ll check out that cut, tell us if it needs stitches.”

“A doctor will cost money. And I…I have other plans for…for my income in the next while.”

What income? He doubted she had any, but he couldn’t say that. “Phoenix…”

“Stop,” she said. “I’ve had worse than this. This is nothing.”

Watching her closely, he could see that she was dizzy. “Do it for Jacob’s peace of mind, then.”

“Please, don’t.”

“Don’t what?”

“I haven’t got the money for a doctor. I’m sure you know that.”

I’ll look after the bill,” he said, but he should’ve known that wouldn’t convince her.

She edged farther away from him. Then she started down the street at a faster clip than he felt she should. “I’m okay,” she called back. “Go take care of Jacob.”

“Damn it, Phoenix.” He hurried after her. “Why do you have to be so stubborn? It won’t cost that much.”

She hadn’t bothered to turn when he spoke, so he’d been talking to her back. “It’s a waste of money,” she told him over one shoulder. “I’m fine, like I said.”

“It’s five miles to your place. You’ll never make it.”

She made no comment.

“Soon you won’t even be able to see where you’re going, what with all that blood.”

Again, she didn’t respond. She’d managed to put a little distance between them and obviously thought she was getting away. But he wasn’t about to let her go. He had no idea whether she’d make it. So he jogged after her and swept her into his arms, which wasn’t hard since she didn’t weigh much.

“Ah!” she cried. He’d startled her. She hadn’t expected that move. He guessed her head hurt, too, and being jarred hadn’t helped.

“We’re doing this my way,” he said, and carried her to his truck.

Brooke
I’ve come from a privileged life and an even more privileged upbringing. My parents taught me right from wrong and everything in between… except I wanted the gray area. I wanted to live life on the edge with the possibility of falling over. I didn’t care about the consequences because I had no heart…
I left that on the floor of my parents’ bedroom door, shattered.
And never went back to pick up the pieces.

Devon
Family first.
I learned the meaning of the word hate.
I learned that life is a battlefield and I stood frontline.
I learned that praying doesn’t work and God doesn’t listen.
And I learned how to be a man…
All at the receiving end of my father’s fists, my mother’s tears, and my sisters screams.
You can’t run away from your past…
It will always find you, especially when you’re asleep.

Warning: Book contains adult situations.
Sex/language. Mature readers only.

WOW! Looking around seeing if anyone can tell that I just was taken on one helluva ride. I wanted to play with M. Robinson and she just showed me whose boss.

I will do a full honest disclosure. I never read VIP. I have it, I haven’t read it. I make this point because Tempting Bad is a spin off of VIP. I haven’t really #authorstalked M. Robinson either. Whoever is reading this…yes, YOU… Learn. From. My. Mistakes. Read all her books, her writing style is so fluid it grips you at just the right time then lets you go at the precise moment even when you want to punch the characters in the throat or you’re clutching your heart from the pain. The writing is very deliberate and calculating proving that M. Robinson is a smart writer and I am now a reader for life! I will be going back to read all her other books!!

I loved this book and not because of the hot sex you have to expect from a story like this. I don’t love this book because everyone I know who is a book nerd like me loves M. Robinson. NO, I love Tempting Bad for the simplicity of what it is. This is a story of life, the dark side of consequences that many don’t want to admit can and do happen; a story that defines that perception really is in the eye of the beholder.  Tempting Bad takes you on a roller coaster of events that proves that fate will always deal its’ hand no matter what path you choose to take.

Told among dual first person POV, we are brought into the world that’s born from VIP, and exclusive erotic illusion of wants, thru the eyes of Brooke. A spoiled brat who has the perfect life in every way until her world is shattered at a tender age. During the same time we are thrust into the darkness that encompasses Devon and his never ending pain in life. With six degrees of separation we read along as each character in Tempting Bad has their specific place and a connection with the next character, and the best part is when all these worlds collide and you see the awesome effect each one has on another. Going back to the hot sex, the scenes in this story are full of debauchery told with such clarity you can almost touch, smell and see what’s going on around you. Saying all this, the best feeling for me, is the way Devon and Brooke are characterized. Having to continue with life when dealt a crappy hand and finding their way to a place that is truly content, even when they try their hardest to not care and sabotage themselves at every turn, fate comes and puts them where they need to be.

    M. Robinson, for me, has truly told a good story and at times I wanted to scream at her because I thought I was going to be taken down a road I didn’t want to go down, truth be told I would’ve loved every which way this story could’ve been told, so my point is moot but still. LOL  But thankfully we got back on the same page :-) and my world went back to good.

So all in all what I am trying to say in this long winded review is that I would recommend Tempting Bad to everyone! I Loved it, can wait for more and I know you will to!

** I was given an advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review and experience.

I was there, but I wasn’t.
I danced around in a sea of emptiness and longing, it moved around me easily, carelessly, harshly.
It was all and it was nothing.
It made me full and it made me empty.
It pleased me and it dismayed me.
I didn’t care. I was there to do a job. To be a VIP. I played my part beautifully, just as I always did. Letting myself get taken away on empty promises of nothing, but somehow seemed like everything.

M. Robinson loves to read. She favors anything that has angst, romance, triangles, cheating, love, and of course sex!

V*V*Release Day Blitz*V*V Sail (Wake Bk 2) by M. Mabie

Sail
Book Two in The Wake Series
by M. Mabie
Release Blitz March 31st

This isn’t just a two-year long one-night stand. It’s my life.

This is my life. Our life. It isn’t just some careless affair.
I’ve made the worst decisions a woman could, but I’ll earn my second chance.
She can try keeping all the guilt for herself, but I’m just as much to blame.
Loving Casey wasn’t my biggest mistake. Fighting it for so long was.
I’ll show her how fearless our love makes me. I’ll protect her torn heart.
He still has magic in his eyes. He’s the man who makes me happy.
Her voice still brings me to my knees. She says my name like it’s sacred.
I live for the day when I’m his. To take care of him. To love him the way he deserves.
I can’t wait to be all she needs. I can give her a happy life, security and so much love.
Sometimes two ships never meet in the night, but ours did.
Sometimes the water is rough. It beats you all to hell until you have no choice but get stronger.
Our love story reads more like a tragedy, but to me it’s clean and pure.
Let them point their fingers. Without a love like ours, they haven’t really lived. I pity them.
I’m a cheating wife and a villain. I am his honeybee.
I’m a snake in the grass and I sleep best when I’m lying next to his wife.
I want to be his everything.
I’m nothing without her anyway.
This isn’t even close to over.
It’ll never be over.
Sail is the second book in the continuing Wake Series. For more information on the first book in the series see the link for Bait below.

Bait (The Wake Series, Pt. 1)

He was trouble from the start, but I couldn't resist.

She was the best kind of trouble. The kind that was so wrong, it felt right.

I’ve tried and failed to stay away from him.
I’ve done everything in my power to make her mine and keep her.

He’s almost impossible to say no to.
She never tells me yes.

We’re always fighting.
When we’re not fighting, we’re… well… making up.

He makes me laugh so hard.
I miss her laugh the most.

I'm a liar.
She knows the truth, but won’t admit it.

Sometimes, I wish I'd never met him.
I wish we could meet all over again. I'd do better.

His sweet girlfriend knows.
The guy she’s with is a fool.

I’ll never love anyone like I love him.
She doesn’t love me enough to choose us.

It was the wrong place.
It was the wrong time.

It should have been him.
It will always be her.
