Ella Jackson is an ordinary teenage girl whose father just happens to be a rich and famous film director. Her life must be awesome, right? Not exactly. Her father is always working and her stepmother and two step sisters basically live to make Ella miserable. Life sucks, until Ella meets Julian. But, instead of falling in love with him, she finds herself falling in love with the hottest boy at school…her step sister’s boyfriend. In a remarkable coming of age story written by a real teenager, If You Wish confronts bullying, drug abuse, and LGBT rights in a story that is anything but a fairy tale.

Usually fairy tales start off once upon a time, blah, blah, blah. I guess I could start off my story that way, but then the story wouldn’t be right. The truth is, I’m not a princess. And this really isn’t a fairy tale. There is no magic fairy godmother who goes around turning poor girls into princesses and pumpkins into carriages. So if you want that kind of story I suggest you read something else. This story is going to be about me, Ella. Just plain old boring me. I’m just a normal 16-year-old girl. I’m not special or different in any way at all. That is, I never thought I was special, until I met Julian. But he comes in later. You’ll have to start from the beginning. So go on. If you wish…

Cassandra Sage Briskman is a 16 year old YA author, who splits her time between Los Angeles, California and Brooklyn, NY. If You Wish is her debut novel.

His hand slides down my body to the waistband of my pants. He pauses.

The pressure of his hand is a reminder of what I want. Of what I desire. Pushing my body firmly into his, I let him know what I need.

I need is his hands on me. His fingers in me.

He finds the button and undoes it. Wedges his hand between the thin material and my skin.

The pads of his fingertips slowly work themselves further downward. Each inch they travel sends a wave of chills to flow through my body; each nerve ending is pricked alive.

He pushes his hand lower and lower until I feel him trace the lace covering my most intimate spot. A whisper against my sensitive flesh.

“Please,” I moan, rotating my hips to help alleviate the hunger growing inside me. The flimsy material that covers me moves aside and his fingers trace down the seam of my skin. The movements are so slow, every part of my body quivers with anticipation.

“Dr. Montgomery, your next patient is here.” The receptionist’s voice slams through our lust filled haze.

Publisher: Forever
Trade Paperback: $13.99 USD

New York Times bestselling author JB Salsbury makes her Forever debut with a stand-alone unforgettable new novel, with a twist no one will see coming . . .

What do you do when you wake up with no memory of what you did last night?

Lucas spent the first half of his life protecting himself from others, but now his own mind is his biggest enemy. He doesn't know what happens when the blackouts overtake him, but he can recall the feelings—the rage, the confusion, the fear. Thankfully the quiet life he's found in Payson, Arizona has kept the darkness at bay. Until his boss's estranged daughter shows up in town, asking questions she shouldn't and sparking a desire Lucas can't control. Getting close to Shyann is the best thing that's ever happened to him, but when his blackouts return, unleashing the truth he's battled so long to hide, he may just lose her forever . . .

“What we have isn’t conventional, it wouldn’t be considered ideal, but it’s perfect for us. Because love never discriminates. Even when you’re split.”

The last word I would ever use to describe Split would be conventional. From the beginning of the story I was intrigued. I couldn’t quite put my finger on where the words were taking me. It wasn’t until sometime later into the story did certain things click for me. And as soon as that happened, the suspense of it all is what kept me turning page after page.

I’m purposely being vague with my description because my wish is for every reader to start reading Split the same way I did. Blind; having no reviews to guide me on the content of the story. No spoilers that would give away the biggest secret, the best secret that makes this story so appealing and most different of its genre.

Split will take its readers on a journey of love and acceptance while trying to overcome fears that include the deepest of traumas while guiding the main characters into a relationship of the purest form.

Unconditional Love.

This is my first JB Salsbury book that I have read and I now understand why she has the praise of her work. Her writing flows from word to word and commands you to sit tight while the story reveals itself only when it wants to.  For me Split was sexy and charming. It was heart clenching and at times refreshing. Split is a complete surprise. The main characters were well developed and complex and made me feel all the emotions on the spectrum at the drop of a hat.

 It’s dark and unforgivable.

Overall, Split is a story that will knock you back a step and make you realize that a story isn’t always at face value.

“You can’t jump.”
She narrows her eyes on me. “Of course I can.”
“Is it safe?”
My grip on her grows tighter and she steps close enough that I can feel the heat of her breasts brush against my ribs. “Lucas, do you trust me?”
“No.” The word comes out on a shaky whisper.
A gentle grin softens her face and with both her hands she works to relax my hold enough for her to slip free. Seconds later she turns, takes four long strides, and disappears off the rock cliff.
A holler that can only be described as guttural exhilaration echoes off the canyon walls and slices through the trees.
I race to the edge and there’s nothing but a circle of white bubbles marring the once shimmering pond.
I wait for her to surface, and just when I’m about to jump in and rescue her, her head pops up out of the water with a feral howl.
“That was amazing!” She waves at me. “The water is perfect!”
With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I allow myself a moment to wonder what it would be like to be as free as Shyann. Everything I do is weighed against the danger of doing it. The threat of blacking out always pulling me back to walk the safer, less risky side of any situation. But something about her makes me want to try harder, makes me want to take a risk like other twenty-five-year-old guys. The sound of her squealing lights a fire in my chest that has me wanting to jump.
Risking a blackout might be worth the few seconds of euphoria I haven’t felt since…I can’t remember.
I think of backing away and yelling for her to meet me at the truck, but something pulls me toward her. Part of me wonders if it’s nothing more than wanting to be close, to keep her safe, because she belongs to Mr. Jennings and I owe him. But even as the thought enters my mind, so does another.
I want her to like me.
I want her to see me as brave.
I want to know what it’s like to be normal.
