Honey Whiskey is not a standalone book; it is the second book in the Bastards series. In order to fully understand the characters and storyline, without feeling confused, you must read the first book about Matty and Jo, Always Been Mine.
The Bastards live in a world that most don’t understand. We follow our own rules, only accountable to each other, the innocents we protect, and the people we couldn’t save. Honey Whiskey is the second book in a series, to be read after Always been mine. You could probably read it as a standalone, but I wouldn’t recommend it that way you get all of the back information, and is less confusing.
Honey Whiskey is Matt and Jo’s story. Matt has a past that he isn’t proud of but has learned from. He’s keeping those secrets from Jo. All he wants to do is keep her safe and he’s afraid that if she knows that she will run.
Jo has gone through quite a few changes in her life, a divorce, a big move, but she loves Matty unconditionally but also needs some answers to her questions. All Matt wants to do is protect her.
These drive each other crazy. Hell, they drove me crazy! (Ha-ha!) BUT! Carina did an excellent job with their characters, and this book. It was angsty, (which I love), raw in places and a great book about friends finding love the second time around!
